Kentucky Senate Bill 3 threatens to undermine the management of the state's fish and wildlife resources by administratively attaching the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources (KDFWR) to the Department of Agriculture. This bill would also grant the Commissioner of Agriculture the authority to appoint all members of the KDFWR Commission, potentially jeopardizing the expertise and independence necessary for effective wildlife management. As concerned citizens, hunters, and conservationists, it is crucial we oppose Senate Bill 3. The KDFWR and its Commission should be led by professionals and experts in the field of wildlife conservation, not those with conflicting agricultural interests.

There is no need for Kentucky to merge the KDFWR to the Department of Agriculture or allow the Commissioner of Agriculture to appoint the KDFWR Commissioners. It is essential the KDFWR and its Commission be led by wildlife professionals and experts who possess the necessary expertise to effectively manage Kentucky's fish and wildlife resources.
